ALA WAI CENTENNIAL
MEMORIAL PROJECT

ABOUT

Ala Wai Centennial Memorial Project is a radical conceptual demonstration of a revolutionary land art project and prospective climate justice conservancy utilizing the Hawai ‘i Futures Framework for Ahupua‘a Recovery. Launched in 2017 in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, by artist Sean Connelly, Ala Wai Centennial is a living memorial concept that advocates for the contemporary recovery of Hawaiian fishponds and taro fields across the built environments of Hawai‘i Nei, such as in the occupuied fishponds covered beneath Fort DeRussy Waikīkī, O‘ahu, and others similarily by urbanisms beyond.

The project stands as a bold call for reparations for the militarization of ‘Āina (land / that which feeds).
